How to make Webflow forms work after exporting your site

A Webflow export includes your form's markup and styling, but not Webflow's submission processing. If you host the exported files yourself, the form needs a new endpoint before it can receive responses.

What stops working

Webflow confirms that exported sites do not retain form processing, file uploads, or reCAPTCHA. An exported page can look complete while its submit button has nowhere useful to send answers. Test the hosted export rather than assuming that a successful-looking interaction means a response was saved.

Connect the existing form

  1. In YetiForm, create an external form and copy its submission endpoint.
  2. Open the exported HTML and find the form element. Set its method to POST and its action to the endpoint.
  3. Check that every field you want to save has a name attribute. Keep your existing labels, CSS classes, and client-side validation.
  4. Host the updated export, submit a real test response, and confirm that it appears in the YetiForm submissions dashboard.
<form method="POST" action="https://share.yetiform.com/api/forms/YOUR_FORM_ID/submit">
  <label for="email">Email</label>
  <input id="email" name="email" type="email" required>
  <button type="submit">Send</button>
</form>

Keep the experience intact

A regular HTML form submission will navigate to a response page unless you handle the POST with JavaScript. If you already have a custom success state, submit FormData with fetch, check the response status, and show that state only after a successful response. The external endpoint accepts named text answers; use a YetiForm-built form if your flow needs file uploads.

Before you switch traffic

  1. Test required and optional fields on desktop and mobile.
  2. Check that an actual submission is stored, not merely that the button reacts.
  3. Reconnect any confirmation email or webhook action you used before export.
  4. Export historical Webflow submissions separately if you need to retain them; a new endpoint only handles future entries.
