Define the four numbers
- Views: how many form impressions were recorded.
- Submissions: how many completed responses were received.
- Unique submitters: distinct anonymous browser IDs associated with completed responses, so repeat submissions from one browser are counted together.
- Conversion rate: submissions divided by views, expressed as a percentage. It is a directional measure, not a perfect count of people.
Read the trend, not one number
Choose a consistent time window and compare views with submissions on the same chart. If views rise but submissions stay flat, inspect the form length, field friction, mobile layout, error messages, and page context. If both fall together, traffic or distribution may be the bigger issue.
Make one change at a time
- Choose a hypothesis, such as an unclear first question.
- Change that question or its explanation, leaving the rest of the form alone.
- Allow enough comparable traffic to see a pattern.
- Check both conversion and the quality of resulting submissions before keeping the change.
What this chart cannot tell you
A form-level views and submissions chart does not reveal where people abandon individual steps. Browser IDs can also be reset or blocked. Use the chart to spot where to investigate, then test the form yourself or gather direct feedback.
